How to get there
There is no need to use the car, we can start from the apartments. If we want a shorter version of this walk we can drive to Carranques car park: follow the coastal road to Gijón, first turn left towards “ciudad residencial de Perlora”, drive through 1,5 kms till we get to Carranques beach car park.
Description
The complete trail, from Candás to Aboño and back, is 12 kms long. We propose an 8 kms walk, return included. It is an easy trail
Ciudad Residencial de Perlora stretch
We turn left as we leave the apartments and follow the road to Gijón till the turn that takes us to Ciudad Residencial de Perlora. Once we get to the first car park we can either walk the trail to Huelgues beach and follow the path closest to the coast, or follow a path that runs very close to the railway. If we are happy to exercise we recommend to walk the path along the coast on the way to Xivares, and to use the other one on our return.
“El Carreño” stretch”
This green trail (an old railway) is 1.5 kms long with three tunnels that are well illuminated. Views are outstanding, half way through we can walk down to El Tranqueru beach, wild and open. If the sea is calm and the tide is out it is a magnificent place for a dip. When we get to the end of the trail we can walk down to Xivares residential area, and continue the walk to Xivares beach.

What else to do
The trail runs very close to the railway Gijón-Avilés. We can return from Xivares to Perlora or Candás by train, or get the train in Perlora or Xivares and spend the rest of the day in Gijón or Avilés.
During the summer Xivares beach bar is very animated and it is a lovely place to have a bite.
